Juvenile Puppy
Increased independence. May "forget" previously learned commands — normal adolescent testing. Teething peaks — chewing behaviour intensifies. Rank in household becomes important.
Nutritional Needs
3 meals per day. Continue puppy formula. Nutritional needs are at their highest relative to body weight during this phase.
Exercise & Activity
15–20 minutes of controlled exercise 2x daily. Avoid high-impact activities for large breeds (jumping, stairs). Mental stimulation is as important as physical.
Health Concerns at This Stage
parvovirus if vaccine series incomplete
growth plate injuries from over-exercise
dental disease
intestinal parasites
Common Behaviour Issues
destructive chewing
selective hearing
mouthing and nipping
play biting
Special Care
All puppy vaccines should be complete by 16 weeks. Spay/neuter discussion with vet. Provide safe chew toys for teething. Supervise all play with children.
Training Focus
Reinforce basic commands daily. Begin loose-leash walking. Introduce gentle exposure to new people, vehicles, and sounds. Enrol in puppy manners class if not already done.
