About the German Shepherd
German Shepherds are among the most versatile working dogs in the world. In India, they are popular as guard dogs, police dogs, and family companions. Intelligent and hardworking, they need both mental stimulation and physical exercise to be content.
Temperament
Alert and highly trainable. Can be aloof with strangers but deeply bonds with family. Needs a clear pack leader or may become anxious.
Care & Grooming
Double coat requires brushing 3โ4 times weekly. Provide 2 hours of activity daily โ walks, fetch, agility. Mental enrichment (puzzle toys, training) prevents destructive boredom. Socialise from puppyhood.
Nutritional Needs
Feed a high-protein, large-breed formula. Adult intake: 3โ4 cups dry food per day. Avoid exercise immediately after meals to reduce bloat risk. Omega-3 supplements support joint and coat health.
