About the Shih Tzu
Shih Tzus are companion dogs bred for royalty and they carry that expectation into modern homes. Their beautiful flowing coat is their most distinctive feature but requires daily grooming. In India's hot climate, many owners keep them in a "puppy cut" year-round. They are indoor dogs that cannot handle heat well.
Temperament
Loves attention and human companionship โ can develop separation anxiety. Generally friendly with everyone. Not great in extreme heat due to flat face.
Care & Grooming
Daily brushing and combing essential. Trim around eyes and ears regularly. Keep indoors with AC in summer โ brachycephalic breeds are high-risk in heat. Short walks in early morning/evening only. Clean facial folds daily.
Nutritional Needs
Small-breed formula with real meat as first ingredient. 0.5โ1 cup dry food split across two meals. High omega-3 content supports coat health. Fresh water always available โ brachycephalic dogs dehydrate faster.
